This tour is our shortest real trek and although not very heavy-duty, there are some tough climbs in it. The nights are in a simple dormitory type of room. All meals are included except breakfast on the first day and dinner on the last day. This tour is suitable for everyone in reasonable physical condition.

Day 1. In the morning at eight o’clock you depart in pick-up truck for about 4 hours to the Kok river. The ride carries you through beautiful scenery, rice paddies and diverse plantations. After lunch you step into a longtail boat for a trip through the jungle along the Mae Kok river. On the way you can spot a local village. We get off at a point where we make a 2-hour trek to a Lahu village. In this village the guide prepares dinner and you spend the night.

Day 2. After breakfast we hike to some waterfalls where there is an opportunity to take a bath. From here we continue for about 2 hours to an elephant camp, where we have lunch. The journey continues by elephant through a mountainous area with some spectacular views. During the afternoon, we visit a very traditional Akha village where we spend the night.

Day 3. The last day starts with a short hike to a nearby Shan village. The Shan (or Thai Yai) are Thais who originally migrated from the Shan state in Burma. This tribe does not wear traditional clothing. From here we go to the main road to take the pick-up truck back to Chiang Mai, where we will arrive late afternoon.

Note: This tour can be tough and difficult, especially in the rainy season (Jun - Oct) and is not recommended for children below 12 years of age. Please also read our tips about trekking.

Included: All transfers, an English-speaking tour guide, all meals except for breakfast on day 1 and dinner on day 2. Start & end at your hotel in Chiang Mai. This tour starts on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
