A beautiful and relaxed sightseeing tour with overnight stays in beautiful luxury hotels. This tour gives a good impression of the north of Thailand. You visit the famous golden triangle, once the infamous opium production area of Thailand but now a much visited tourist destination. You will meet hilltribes and see how they live. See the opium museum and the small hilltribe museum. In Chiang Dao you can see how elephants are trained to work in the jungle. At the border with Myanmar, the former Burma, the village Mae Sai has many markets with countless goods for sale. Of course also the famous "white temple" of Chiang Rai is included in this program.
Day 1. Chiang Rai - Chiang Mai
Morning pickup at Chiang Rai Airport or at your hotel in Chiang Rai. Visit the King Mengrai statue, the founder of Chiang Rai. Onward to a small Hilltribe museum which gives a good impression of the life of hilltribes and their traditions in northern Thailand. Naturally also the famous white temple of Chiang Rai will be visited. On route to Chiang Mai you will stop at the Charin Garden Resort and the hot springs just a bit past the village of Mae Kachan. Stroll at leisure through the local market. Then onward to Chiang Mai, along fast streaming rivers with large rocks. Well suited for a refreshing swim, especially in the summer. Arrival and overnight stay in the beautiful Yaang Come Village boutique hotel in Chiang Mai.

Day 2. Elephants & caves
In the morning visit an elephant training camp in the wonderful area of Chiang Dao, north of Chiang Mai. Here you will see how these giant creatures are trained to work in the jungle, a training that requires many years. During a special performance the elephants will show their skills. Onward to the Chiang Dao caves, with a burmese Buddha statue of white marble. After lunch onward to Thaton. Arrive at your hotel in the afternoon. The rest of the day and evening are free to enjoy the beautiful surrounding area. You will stay in the Maekok River Village Resort.
Day 3. Golden Triangle, hilltribes and opium museum
Depart Thaton via a scenic mountain route to the Golden Triangle. The road ends in Mae Sai at the bridge that connects Thailand with Myanmar (Burma). Mae Sai is the northern most point of Thailand. There is a large market where all kinds of articles are sold that are imported from China. Especially gemstones, but beware of fakes if you want to do some shopping yourself. In Tachilek, on the burmese side of the border, you can buy the goods at even lower prices. Lunch in a local restaurant. Move on to the Akha and Yao hilltribes. The Akha live at the foot of mount Toeng (2200m above sea). Onward to the Golden Triangle, where the 3 countries Thailand, Myanmar and Laos meet. Visit the Opium museum. At the end of the afternoon arrive at your hotel, the beautifully located Imperial Golden Triangle Resort. At a surcharge we can also book your overnight stay in the magnificent and very luxurious Anantara Golden Triangle Resort with view over the Mekong river.

Day 4. Chiang Rai
The morning is free to enjoy the beautiful natural area or to relax in your hotel. In the afternoon you travel back to Chiang Rai. This tour ends at your hotel or the airport in Chiang Rai.
Included: Three overnight stays including breakfast, all transfers by private aircon minivan, english speaking guide. Not included are entry fees. This tour can start in Chiang Mai or Chiang Rai.
