Not a trek but a tour along the notorious Golden Triangle, the place where Burma, Laos and Thailand meet. A relaxed tour that gives a vivid impression of the fascinating landscape and various hill tribes in this unique intersection of nations. Start & end in Chiang Mai.

Day 1. Chiang Mai - Thaton

Visit to a training camp for elephants, located in the beautiful area around Chiang Dao, north of Chiang Mai. Here you can see how these giant creatures are trained to work in the jungle. Onward to the Chiang Dao caves with a beautiful, white marble Buddha statue that originates from Burma. After lunch you will depart to the little village Thaton. On route you can enjoy the splendid nature views, paddy fields and plantations. In Thaton you will stay overnight in the Maekok River Village Resort.

Day 2. Thaton - Golden Triangle

Depart to the border village Mae Sai, the northernmost point of Thailand. The bridge in Mae Sai connects Thailand with Myanmar. A lively trade between the 2 countries takes place across the bridge. You can enter Myanmar, you don't need a visum. Mae Sai has a market with all kinds of goods imported from China, and also gemstones (also fake ones, so beware if you want to make purchases). In Tachilek, at the Burmese side, things are even cheaper. Onward to visit Akha and Yao hilltribe villages, at the foot of the 2200 meter high mountain Doi Toeng. Then visit the Golden Triangle, where the 3 countries Thailand, Laos and Myanmar meet. Visit the Opium museum. Overnight stay in a pleasant hotel in Chiang Saen with view over the Mekong River, or at a surcharge in Chiang Rai.

Day 3. Golden Triangle - Chiang Mai

The morning is free to relax in the magnificent nature. In the afternoon travel from Chiang Rai back to Chiang Mai. You will arrive around 17:00hr. End of tour. Included are all transfers, 2 overnight stays with breakfast and an english speaking guide. Not included are admission fees.
