Two-day Golden Triangle Tour

Start: on request

Home > Sightseeing tours > Golden Triangle tour

The Golden Triangle, where Thailand, Laos, and Burma converge. Not a trek but a tour along the notorious Golden Triangle, the place where Burma, Laos and Thailand meet. A relaxed tour that gives a vivid impression of the fascinating landscape and various hill tribes in this unique intersection of nations. Start & end in Chiang Mai.

Day 1.  An early morning departure by bus for some 3 hours to the village of Thaton. On the way the natural beauty of the rice fields and plantations is most enjoyable. After lunch, we continue by longtail boat (a long thin boat powered by a truck engine) to Chiang Rai. This trip takes about 4 hours and carries you along the Mae Kok River, winding its way through the jungle. Sometimes you can see a village here & there hidden on the mountainside. Then, from the boat landing via a rickshaw to Wiang Inn hotel (or similar) for the night. Dinner is included.

Day 2.  After breakfast we set out again, this time by car to Chiang Saen and the Golden Triangle. After that at the Thai Burmese bordertown of Mae Sai for lunch, which is served in a Thai/Burmese restaurant. From here you have a good view of Laos and Burma. The bridge at Mae Sai links the two countries where there is a lively cross-border trade. After lunch we visit Akha and Yao hill tribes. The Akha hill tribe lives at the foot of Doi Tung, a mountain of some 2.200 metres. Finally we drive back to Chiang Rai from where an airconditioned bus will take us back to Chiang Mai. All transfers and all meals except for the first breakfast and the last dinner included.
