Day 1. Bridge over the River Kwai
A morning journey by car & longtail boat takes you to the famous Floating Market of
Damnoen Saduak. See, feel and smell the old style and traditional way of selling and
buying vegetables and fruits from small boats. Then it's onward to the spectacular Khao
Bin caves and Kanchanaburi for a visit to the Bridge over the River Kwai. The World War II
history of the bridge is beautifully depicted in the famous movie by David Lean in 1957.
Later you will visit the Jeath War Museum and the World War II Cemetery. Then board a
longtail boat that will take you over the River Kwai to the
River Kwai Jungle Rafts Hotel,
nicknamed the Floatel. This place is magic. The floating bungalows are built on
bamboo-rafts surrounded by magnificent jungle. The accommodation is basic with private
bath and shower. There is no electricity (only oil lamps), creating a fairytale
atmosphere. It is possible to take an elephant ride, See Burmese Mon dancing or swim in
the river.
The morning is free to relax in paradise. Visit the nearby Mon village, take an elephant ride or just rest and enjoy the wonderful surroundings. In the afternoon you will visit an elephant camp. Float down a gentle stream on a bamboo raft. Make a ride on the back of an elephant and enjoy the views over the river and the forest, while you walk towards the sunset. Return at the camp and see how the mahouts (elephant keepers) live. Then the elephants are bathed in the river. You can join this activity and bathe the elephants yourself, see the pictures on the left. Make sure to take dry clothes with you! This is a fun activity for children. After the elephant bathing is over, you will join the evening meal with the camp people. Then transfer to your hotel. You will stay overnight in the Oriental Kwai Resort in a Garden View room (2 persons) or in a Family Cottage room (3 - 6 persons).
Day 2. Hell Fire Pass
The morning is free to relax in paradise. Visit the nearby Mon village, take an elephant
ride or just rest and enjoy the wonderful surroundings. In the afternoon visit the
Hellfire Pass. During the Second World War, thousands of forced local labourers and Allied
prisoners of war suffered and died constructing and maintaining the Burma-Thailand
railway. The museum explains to visitors the story of why and how the railway was built
and attempts to convey the hardships and suffering endured by so many who were forced to
work in extremely harsh conditions. Continue the walking trail to the Kunyu Cutting
Memorial. The walking trail follows the alignment of the original Burma-Thailand railway
for approximately four kilometres from Hellfire Pass to beyond Compressor Cutting. There
are small shelters and interpretative panels explaining more about the history. Onward
transfer to your hotel by longtail boat. Overnight at the
River Kwai Resotel Hotel.
Dag 3. Erawan falls
Visit the wonderful waterfalls of Erawan National Park. The Erawan falls cover 7 levels
over a total distance of 1550 meters. They are amongst the most beautiful falls in
Thailand. You can walk up to all 7 levels. The highest levels require some creative
walking but the climb is more than worth the effort. You can swim at various places so
take your swimming gear with you. Around the park there are caves with sometimes bizarre
stone formations. Early afternoon you will take a train ride on the famous "Death
Railway". The scenery is stunning, especially the part over the wooden bridge
construction. Make sure that you have your cameras ready. On the way back to Bangkok you
