The central region is one of history, battlefields, ancient
temples and mountain parks. Geographically it is Thailand's heartland and Thailand's most fertile farming area, home to
orchards, paddy fields and plantations. The historical temple sanctuaries in the former capital of
Ayutthaya provide great
attractions for visitors. The central region is home to
Bangkok,
Thailands capital city.
Kanchanaburi
is the western-most province, wending its way into the great mountains on the Myanmar border. Kanchanaburi is home to the
famous Bridge over the River Kwai with its world war II history. The province is packed with forests, mountains, lakes,
waterfalls and caves that are located in a number of national parks and wildlife sanctuaries, offering some of
Thailand’s best natural sceneries and providing excellent opportunities for soft adventure.
Khao Yai
National Park, located conveniently close to Bangkok, offers adventurous tours suited for people of all ages.
The central region also offers some of the finest tropical beaches in Asia that draw large numbers of visitors. The east coast boasts a wide range of beaches with Pattaya as the centre. Those wanting a more relaxing time, move further down the coast to Koh Samet and the stunning islands of Koh Chang National Park near the Cambodian border. On the west coast, the resorts of Cha-am and Hua Hin are attracting travellers who prefer a more laid-back atmosphere.
